Me and the Pumpkin Queen by Marlene Kennedy

Did Mildred become the Pumpkin Queen like her mom did years before? Describe Mildred's relationship with her dad. What was your favorite part? Have you ever grown anything in a garden?

I though "Me and the Pumpkin Queen" was very funny and joyful. My favorite part was when Mildred won the biggest pumpkin prize. But I thought having a dad that was a vet would be cool. Aunt Arlene was so hysterical. At the end, when she bought pumpkin earrings with her prize money was cool. I really loved "Me and the Pumpkin Queen". You should read it, too!

It was really sad that Mildreds mother died. Mildred auntie was very bossy and was greedy. I really like it!

  4. This book was a real demonstration of how one can stick to a goal and attain it. Mildred had many obstacles she surmounted before she met her goal, but that's what makes reading this book so enjoyable. You don't know until the end how all things turn out. I must confess, as a male elementary teacher, it was a little uncomfortable reading portions of this book to my students, but we worked out way through it successfully and all felt like it was a winner of a book. I hope you enjoy it too!

The book is a very inpireing book because she never gave up on growing the pumpkin seed.I thought aunt arlene was really pushy. It was funny when the sore loser farmer made a rumor of that Milldred did not grow the pumpkin her father did was hilarious!! But i felt bad for him when he never won a contest.

i thought that this book was a great dramatesation about never ever ever giving up in what you belief even if nobody beliefs in you. it touched me and i have never read a single book that was as well written as that book. i thought it to be good, sad and frustrating for mildred at times and it was that way for me to because i get into my charaters. what it comes down to is i love me and the pumpkin queen alot and mildred's aunt is very mean and greedy and bossy.

Wow! Cool book! I thought "Me and the Pumpkin Queen" was a crazy funny story. I really enjoyed reading this because it is a fantastic story of determination, hope, and stubborness. My favorite character would absolutely have to be Aunt Arlene. She's just so funny! Aunt Arlene tries to raise Mildred herself, but Mildred wants to be raised in the tomboy-ish way her dad wants to raise her.

What I liked most about this book is that the way you can picture the story so clearly happening. I really got into the characters, and I felt their emotions. When Mildred heard about the tornado warning near her house, I was really scared for her. Also, Mildred's dogs take the cake for funniest animals. What they did to the pumpkin seeds...

"Me and the Pumpkin Queen" is a funny, crazy, and entertaining story. Anyone who enjoys pumpkins, dogs, or hilarious characters should definitely read "Me and the Pumpkin Queen."

Mr. Lamb, one of our awesome 3rd grade teachers, did a wonderful book talk for this humorous book! He shared pictures from his own garden and talked about his love of gardening. He really enjoyed the book and it showed! I showed a "video clip" from the Today Show that had the winners of this year's pumpking growing contest! The pumpkins were HUGE! Wow!

  12. This book was a funny, interesting, suspicious book. Mildred is a determined girl who will never give up her passion to grow pumpkins! It is a comedy, and a humorous book, and a family time book. --Arathi S. 5th Ms.Roffman
